Benjamin Tyler Cook (born December eleven, 1997)[ane] [2] is an American stage actor. He has appeared on Broadway in Ragtime, Billy Elliot the Musical (for which he was nominated for a Helen Hayes Honor), Tuck Everlasting, Hateful Girls, and Due west Side Story. He has also performed in 2 Broadway national tours, Billy Elliot the Musical and Newsies the Musical, and appeared on telly in episodes of 30 Rock, House of Cards, Veep, Law & Order: SVU, and in the HBO film Paterno. He most recently appeared as a Jet in the 2021 film version of W Side Story and equally Henry in the HBO Max horror series Pretty Niggling Liars: Original Sin (2022–present).

Early life [edit]

Cook was born in Eden, N Carolina, and grew up in New York City and Lorton, Virginia.[iii] He is the youngest kid of Jill and Glenn Melt. His mother the executive director of the American Schoolhouse Counsellor Clan.[4] His begetter is a lensman, blogger, and publishing consultant.[5]

At the age of seven, Cook began studying dance at the Metropolitan School of the Arts in northern Virginia.[6] He attended the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City for middle schoolhouse and during high school.[7]

Career [edit]

Musical theatre [edit]

Melt performed in several productions equally a kid in Washington, D.C., including at Ford's Theatre and the John F. Kennedy Heart for the Performing Arts.[6] He fabricated his Broadway debut at the age of eleven in Ragtime at the Neil Simon Theatre, understudying and performing the role of Edgar (The Piddling Boy).[six] [eight] His side by side Broadway part was Alpine Boy in Baton Elliot the Musical at the Imperial Theatre, and played the roles of Michael, then Baton in the North American National Tour of the product. His final tour performance as "Billy" was in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 19, 2013.[ix]

From the historic period of 16, he toured for a year and a half in the role of Race and occasionally performed the role of Crutchie as the understudy in the first national tour of Newsies the Musical.[half-dozen] [10] In January 2016, after over 500 performances, Cook left that tour and joined the original Broadway cast of Tuck Everlasting. Previews began in March 2016,[eleven] and the show closed the same May.[12]

Cook joined the ensemble of the musical adaptation of the film Mean Girls. Its pre-Broadway tryout began in October 2017 at the National Theatre, in Washington D.C.[13] [14] The show premiered on Broadway in Apr 2018.[8] He was set up to appear in the 2020 Broadway revival of West Side Story every bit Riff, the leader of the Jets,[15] simply he left the production after existence injured in a preview operation.[16]

Moving-picture show and goggle box [edit]

On telly, Cook appeared equally immature Jack on 30 Rock, in the episode "Chain Reaction of Mental Anguish" (2010);[17] and as Walt in the episode of the HBO series Veep titled "The Choice" (2014).[18] He played Heather Dunbar'southward son in the episode "Affiliate 27" of the Netflix series House of Cards (2013).[19] On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit of measurement, he played Adam Turner in the episode "Bully Expectations" (2017).[20]

Cook reprised his office of Race in Newsies in the film adaptation of the musical, which received a express release in Feb 2017[21] [22] and later on Netflix.[23] In 2018, he appeared in the HBO film Paterno.[24]

He besides appeared in the 2021 flick adaptation of W Side Story equally Mouthpiece, a member of the Jets.[25]
